DAY 1 MADRID -BURGOS
Meet at the agreed upon time to leave for Burgos. Head of Castile and one of the lovliest cities in Spain. Founded in the year 884 by Count Diego Rodríguez Porcelos, during the reign of Alfonso III, the city of Burgos conserves the imprint of centuries that its founders left. Toda the city has corners, squares and streets of singular flavor and beauty, lovely stolls and gardens. We highlight its Cathedral, flagship creation of Gothic art in Spain. The Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Mary Major, is the most representative monument of the city, declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Under the lantern of the transept, built in the 16th century by Juan Vallejo, rest Rodrigo dayz de Vivar, the Cid, and his wife Jimena, in a simple tomb. Continuation with the Tour of las Huelgas. Alfonso VIII founded this monastery for Cistercian nuns in 1187. In it people of notable condition were collected, it served as the royal pantheon and it was the scenery for the monarchs to be knighted. It is a building complex, where various artistic linegjes coexist: Romanesque, mudéjar, Gothic and Renaissance . Lunch. We continue the tour of Vivar del Cid, where the Route begins and the place from where Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar hailed. Continuation to San Pedro Cardeña, celebrated for having been the sheltering place and residence for the family of Rodrigo Díaz “El Cid” during his exile and where the Cid bade farewell to his wife and daughters, Doña Jimena, Doña Elvira and Doña Sol. Return to Burgos. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 2 BURGOS – COVARRUBIAS- SANTO DOMNGO DE SILOS- CAÑON DE RIO LOBOS- BURGO DE OSMA- BERLANGA of the DUERO-ATIENZA-SIGÜENZA
Breakfast and departure for Covarrubias, town of Doña Urraca, that still conserves its walled section and its historic center that remembers its important medieval past. Departure to Santo Domingo de Silos, site of the famous Benedictine abbey whose monks have conquered souls in the whole world with their humble Gregorian chant. In its interior you can visit the Church and the drugstore, exquisite Gothic constructions, but we highlight its lovely cloister and its famous cypress. Departure for San Leonardo de Yagüe. From there we can access the canyon of the Lobos River, place of spectacular natural beauty, where we can contemplate Griffon vultures, ospreys, golden eagles, owls,…Continuation to the Burgo de Osma. Free time in this town where a spectacular Cathedral with an incredible mixture of styles rises up and where the tomb of the Beato of Osma (from the 11th century) can be found. Lunch. Continuation to Berlanga of the Duero. The Cid was the first alcalde of this town. The walled section can be accessed through Aguilera Gate. The mozárabe hermitage of Saint Baudilio, its colegiata from the 15th century and its spectacular castle stand out. Continuation to Atienza, with its majestic castle on a hillock and various emblazoned houses. Arrival in Sigüenza. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 3 SIGÜENZA- MEDINACELI-MOLINA DE ARAGÓN-ALBARRACÍN-TERUEL
Breakfast. Tour of the city whose cathedral houses the chapel where the Doncel is buried. Through the cobbled streets that flank the Jewish Quarter one arrives at the castle today converted into a Parador. Departure for Medinaceli. Free time in this city where we highlight the Collegiate Church and the Franciscan Monastery of Saint Isabel. Continuation to Molina de Aragón. Lunch. Tour of the Historic Grouping where we highlight the famous castle- alcázar. Continuation to Albarracín. Free time in this lovely city with steep and twisted cobble streets. Departure a Teruel: Dinner and lodging.
DAY 4 TERUEL – MORA DE RUBIELOS – RUBIELOS DE MORA – SEGORBE – VALENCIA
Breakfast and city tour. Teruel constitutes a Historic Grouping of great richness especially for the abundance of Mudéjar art that only exists in Spain. The towers of Saint Martin and the Cathedral, the Square of the Little Bull (Plaza del Torico), and the monument of the lovers of Teruel stand out. Departure for Mora de Rubielos, with streets of a medieval outline, where the Castle from the 12th century constructed in Gothic style and the Church stand out. Continuation to Rubielos de Mora, which conserves one of the best urban Historic Groupings in Teruel. Lunch. Departure for the region that gives welcome to the traveler with precious towns like Barracas, Viver ó Jérica. Arrival in Segorbe. Stop in this town with a market with medieval character with its walls, towers, gates, and the alcazar-castle complete the historic richness historic of this place. Continuation to Valencia. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 5 VALENCIA
Breakfast. Tour of the city that the Cid managed to knock from the hands of the powerful Muslims and that later was defeated again only to be reconquered definitively by the Christians. Its historic center conserves its defensive Character and the Serrano towers and the Quart towers stand out. We highlight the Cathedral with the Miguelete, the Market, the central market, the Basilica of Our Lady of The Forsaken. Lunch. Afternoon free. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 6 VALENCIA – ALMANSA – MADRID
Breakfast. Departure for Xátiva. Brief stop and continuation to Almansa, whose castle is the most representative of Castile La Mancha and one of the lovliest in Spain. It is perched over the Cerro del Águila, a steep rocky place that raises its spectacular silhouette over the Almansian plain, Lunch and Continuation to Madrid. Arrival. END OF TRIP
