SENSES OF CADIZ

DAY 1  MADRID

Arrival in Madrid, baggage collection and meeting with the accompanying guide. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 2 MADRID – MÉRIDA – CHIPIONA

Breakfast. Departure in coach at the designated time to Mérida. Lunch and tour of the Roman Amphitheater. At the designated time departure for Chipiona. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 3 CHIPIONA – EXCURSION TO JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA AND ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA

Breakfast. Full day excursion with Lunch to Jerez and Arcos de la Frontera. Departure for Jerez de la Frontera, where we will take a walk through the city and we will attend  an equestrian event that welcomes the most important reserve of Spanish horses of Carthusian lineage in the world. Their beauty, their strenght and their spectacularity, are the characteristics that have given international restige and national pride to its Breeding farms. We will visit a wine cellar of the typical sherry in order to later head to Arcos de la Frontera.  Due to its singular charm and beauty, Arcos is the most famous of the white towns. We will point out the Plaza de Cabildo, the Castle and the Church of Saint Mary, which is promiente due to its Plateresque façade and its frescos from the 14th century, the Convent of the Barefoot Mercedarias, where they sell their own sweets, and the Church of Saint Peter. Return to Chipiona. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 4 CHIPIONA –EXCURSION TO Tarifa – Zahara de los Atunes – Barbate – Vejer de la Frontera  and  Medina Sidonia

Breakfast. Full day excursion with Lunch included. Departure for the city of Tarifa, millennial city situated on the southern most point of Spain, fourteen kilometers from Africa. It has a glorious history, since Its land was, on repeated occasions, the scenery where the future of the nation was born. Tarifa has valuable Cultural Heritage. Prehistoric remains are very abundant (refuges with paintings rupestres, Historic Groupings ofs dolmens and Necropolises from various periods). Various Roman cities sit in the municipality of Tarifa; the most important of them is Baelo Claudia, today catalogued as Archaeological Historic Grouping. Continuation to Zahara de los Atunes, where the remains of what once was the Castle of the Almadrabas, including the walls and the palace, can be found, where they kept the materiales for the almadraba (tuna trap), and in addition, it had a residential character and was protector from pirate attacks. Next we tranfer to Barbate, where Town Hall and the Old Market are clear exponents of the work of the architect Casto Fernández-Shaw and Iturralde. Departure for Vejer de la Frontera. It has an impressive Cultural Heritage that makes it one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. It was declared Historic-Artistic Complex in 1976, in addition to being awarded in 1978 with the 1st National Prize for the beautification of Towns and receiving the distinction of an area of great touristic affluence in 1977. We will continue the route to Medina Sidonia, founded by Phoenicians from Sidon. It reached its hayday under the Muslim invasion. In the 15th century it became part of the duchy of Medina Sidonia. During the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries the city was transformed urbanistically, thanks to the church, looking much as we know it today. Return to the hotel. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 5 CHIPIONA – EXCURSION TO CÁDIZ AND PORT OF SANTA MARÍA

Breakfast. Full day excursion with Lunch to Cádiz and the port of Santa María. Arrival in Cádiz and meeting with the guide to take a panoramic tour of the city known as the “Little Silver Cup”. It is considered the oldest city in West. A cosmopolitan and open city, Columbus chose its port as the departure point for his second voyage to the New World. This commercial activity translated into  a period of economic and cultural splendor, in which the baroque palaces with their caracteristic lookout towers arose. The Cathedral, visible from the sea, especially its dome covered with golden tiles, perfectly fits the face of Cadiz with its Cologneles airs. It combines the baroque and neoclassical styles, and its Treasury is the most important in Spain. The Barrio of the Pópulo, the oldest in the capital, conserves the three gates of the primitive Medieval city: Arch of the People, of the Rose and of the White; in addition to the Roman Theater  and the Church of the Holy Cross, the ancient Cathedral. Transfer to the port of Santa María where we will have free time to stroll through its old town. Return to Chipiona. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 6 CHIPIONA – TRUJILLO – MADRID

Breakfast. Departure in coach for  Madrid. We will make a stop in Trujillo, birthplace of conquistadors and we will have free time to see the square where we can find the equestrian statue of Pizarro. Lunch and continuation to Madrid. Free time to enjoy the night life of the city. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and lodging.

DAY 7  MADRID

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport at the specified time to embark on a flight to your place of origin. END OF TRIP
